So, i went to see The Wedding Present on Saturday night down at the Button Factory.
They were the latest in a long line of bands i loved when i was younger, and now get to see again.
It’s funny how the “benefit” of a few extra years (like, maybe 20….) can change your opinion of something, or completely reinforce it.
I’d alway paired The Wedding Present with My Bloody Valentine as two bands to listen to in the depths of despair, and now i can see why – angry; self-absorbed; selfish maybe…. and listening to The Wedding Present the other night just took me all the way back to those days, closed in my room, angry with the world. But i still love their music, haunting and angry, melodic and jarring.
Takes me right back.
They did a few songs first – a couple of new songs, and a couple of oldies – then launched into the whole of their ‘Seamonsters’ album. I was more of a fan of Watusi and Saturnalia, but still, it was totally worth it.
Also, it’s been a while since i was in the Button Factory, in fact the last time i was there it was still the TBMC. I have to admit i’m not keen on it.
It feels a mess, the carpet is always sticky and manky, steps all over the place, and the jacks was disgusting.
But apart from that it was damn cool.
